Tastes of the Southern Rhône
Our first ever 'Wine Club' tasting was a smash! And we want to say a big thanks to everyone who came along. We tasted our way through 6 very tasty vinos, but here are the highlights of the night as voted by our attendees!
🍇 Wine Of The Night 🍇
Mayard 'Clos du Calvaire' Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Hands down the pick of the evening was this divine Rhône blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
Mayard 'Clos du Calvaire' Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Hands down the pick of the evening was this divine Rhône blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are rightfully the jewel in the crown of the Southern Rhône, coming from the area of the historic summer house of the Pope, north of Avignon.
Lifted berry-fruit nose, almost Burgundian in style with raspberry and cherry notes. A plush silky palate with firm but fine tannins. Immensely enjoyable now, but also will reward any length of cellaring into the next 12 years.
🥂 Best Value Wine 🥂
Juicy apple and a perfumed vibrancy on entry, with lovely volume and weight on the palate, plus a dill-like herbal edge on the finish. The perfect balance of freshness and texture, this is a typical (for the Southern Rhône!) blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette and a tiny dash of Viognier.
