From humble beginnings, Valenciso has become a leading light among Rioja’s small yet growing band of terroir-focused producers. The vineyards and cellar are in the far north of Rioja Alta, in Ollauri, a small village four kilometres from Haro. Year in, year out; Valenciso continues to etch out a distinctive space in the Rioja story and each of their wines point to constant progression and true excellence. This pack features 3 of their iconic wines and is the ultimate deep dive into what this benchmark producer has to offer:
🍇 Rioja Blanco [2022] - This limited-production white comes from 100+ year-old hand-harvested Viura and Grenache Blanc vines that have seen 9 months of aging in untoasted Russian Caucasian oak. Rich yet refined, the resulting wine has lively fruit aromas with subtle creaminess, spice notes and a balanced oak presence on the palate.
🍷 Rioja Reserva [2016] - A complex, savoury, terroir-driven Rioja Tempranillo that mixes characteristics from classical and more modern Rioja reds. The fruit has come from 60+ year-old vines and has seen 18 months in French oak before final aging for 2 years in concrete. The resulting red shows brilliant fruit and herbs with spicy oak, lovely freshness and fine tannins on the finish.
🥇 10 Anos Despues Rioja Reserva [2012] - A pure and aromatic expression of Tempranillo from 75-year-old vines. This glorious wine gets its name from the 10-year aging process it sees before release (5 years in concrete, 3.5 years in oak and 1.5 years in bottle). It exhibits radiant raspberry sweetness, pine-scented fruit, and a deep core of iodine-like complexity underpinned by silk-spun tannins and a classy, gliding finish.. Sheer brilliance that —like all the wines from this exemplary estate— should not be missed.
