Hampden Estate, after 250 years of exporting to independent bottlers, has finally released a rum under their own label. This unsweetened, uncoloured rum is a blend of 31 barrels, made with wild yeasts, and aged for 8 years in Jamaica's tropical climate, resulting in a drier style rum with all the funk and complexity you associate with Jamaica's best. The rum has been cut back with local spring water and no sugar or flavouring has been added. On the nose, the rum is funky with a gluey, acetone entry that fades into dried bananas, while in the mouth, it's a beast, punching above its 46%. The finish is long, spirity, and bone dry with a burn that goes up your nose and follows down into your gullet, making it a great allrounder for both sipping and mixing.
