The Pinhook 10 Year Old Single Barrel Bourbon is the latest, and smallest, single barrel pick from Whiskey Hunt Australia, selected exclusively for WHA during the 2025 Bourbon Kentucky Tour. Brock Tregellas and Scott Allan, together with their tour guests, visited Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, and were given the rare chance to choose a barrel from Pinhook’s highly sought-after Vertical Series. It marks the first time Pinhook has offered a single barrel from its aged bourbon program exclusively for Australia, and it won’t be sold in the United States, which has left more than a few American collectors trying to work out how to get hold of a bottle.

The Vertical Series is one of the most fascinating projects in American whiskey. In 2019, Pinhook began releasing bourbon from a collection of 1,350 MGP barrels, all distilled on the same day, and has released more of them every year since, letting drinkers follow how the same whiskey evolves from 4 years old through to 10 years and beyond. With only a few hundred barrels now remaining, this exceptional 10 year old cask is a genuine find. Well-aged MGP bourbon has a legendary reputation, especially once it reaches double-digit maturity, and single barrels of this age are becoming increasingly hard to come by.

Drawn from Barrel No. 6028 and bottled unfiltered at 117.5 proof (58.8% ABV), this straight bourbon was limited to just 134 bottles of 750ml. The nose opens with dark chocolate and cacao nibs, followed by cooked peaches, hazelnut and toffee caramel, with subtle oak and wood fire in the background. On the palate it turns drier and deeper, with tobacco, cinnamon, liquorice, charcoal and cacao, softened by gentle leather and a bright note of raspberry jam.
