The Schlenkerla 'Fastenbier' or 'Lentbeer' is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the beer a reddish-brown colour and natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is immediately noticeable alongside a fine hoppy note. The palate is full-bodied and malt-driven with a smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, it is said the Schlenkerla Fastenbier has the 'Brotzeit (German word for afternoon snack) already included' - afternoon beers anyone?
