Domaine Huet - Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec
Domaine Huet - Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec
One of three single-vineyard Chenin by Huet, each conveying a different expression of Vouvray's chalky limestone soils. Perched on the Première Côte just above the town of Vouvray, Clos du Bourg is a monopole and generally regarded as the greatest of the three Huet single vineyards (arguably the greatest vineyard in the region), producing some of the most powerful, thrilling, long-lived white wines in Europe. With only one metre of topsoil over solid limestone, the vines tap almost immediately into the mineral resources underneath. The warmth of the site, combined with the mineral complexion of the soils, results in rich, super long-lived wines that seem to effortlessly combine intense minerality with generous texture and concentration.
Still in its youth, the 2024 wafts from the glass with aromas of lemon zest, quince and crisp pear layered with white flowers, chamomile, wet stone and a hint of beeswax. The palate is dry and beautifully textured, with vibrant citrus and orchard fruit supported by racy natural acidity and a powerful chalky mineral backbone. Focused and energetic, it finishes exceptionally long with saline freshness, subtle honeyed complexity and remarkable precision. Emerging as a beautiful wine now, this will only reward further cellaring.
