First made in 1988, Il Blu has become one of the great SuperTuscans. Over the years the Merlot percentage has increased as the vineyards in Castellina and Radda in Chianti have matured. Its now 80% Merlot with equal parts Sangiovese and Cabernet. The components are fermented and aged separately in barriques, 2/3 new, for 18 months before being blended and aged a further 3 months in concrete.
Dripping with dark plum and cherry fruit with chocolate and spice, the palate full bodied with velvety tannins. Its a style of wine that drinks well right out of the gate but cellars beautifully for 15+ year. A sensational wine and a sensational package.
